Western Digital introduces My Passport Studio for Mac

Western Digital has announced information about a new product they are offering for the Mac in a recent press release. These hard drives, the Mac-formatted My Passport Studio Portable Drives, were built with Apple’s Time Machine in mind, contain a capacity gauge, and were made to be perfect for on-the-go users coming in at less than 5 ounces in weight. The prices for these drives comes in at $219.99 for the 320GB version, $159.99 for the 250GB version, and $129.99 for the 160GB version. For that, you will also get a drawstring bag for easy transportation. Jim Welsh, vice president WD’s branded products and consumer electronics groups says, “This sleek personal storage device with a faster FireWire interface and Mac-formatting is exactly the storage solution our Mac customers have been clamoring for ever since we introduced the first WD Passport portable USB drive.” It is worth noting that these products support both the FireWire 400 and USB 2.0 interfaces and can be powered through the USB interface, ridding the need for a power outlet.

This device sounds great to me and would be perfect for Time Machine. Western Digital makes some pretty impressive drives so I would imagine that this line is no exception. The only question I have is whether or it makes a lot of noise, but some people who have a device from this line have told me it doesn’t.
