Push, a new feature from Apple could save a lot of battery and processing power. According to Steve and Scott Forstall, SVP of iPhone Software, background processes were one of the biggest detriments to battery life in iPhone 1.0, but now there is a solution. By maintaining a constant IP connection, 3rd party and Apple apps can notify an iPhone user of things like new mail messages, and the like. The program will be available for users in September, with developer seeds headed out next month. As long as you have cell phone service, the system will work, as it is enabled to run using either Wi-Fi or cellular.

I personally think this is the most revolutionary one of their announcements today… and I'm very blown away at their willingness to make this notification server available to developers. I wonder if this leaves any security holes that will allow people to spam you…
Probably not on the spam front, given that the service is run through Apple.
