One of the things Steve mentioned when presenting the iPhone 3G was that many iPhones were being brought to other countries and unlocked illegally. With only six countries served with the original iPhone, and such a high demand for the product, that was obviously going to happen. Now, along with the inability to purchase and activate 3G iPhones online, Apple is cracking down on people cracking their iPhones and using them illegally. Apple had increased the number of countries it will serve with the iPhone from six to a whopping 70. 21 of those countries will get their iPhones along with the US on the original release date of July 11th, with the rest getting their phones soon thereafter.
