Apple has given Intel the cold shoulder and has decided to not use their chips in the next generation iPhone 3G. Although Intel is working hard to produce smaller versions of their popular and powerful x86 chips, Apple “…chose not to take that road map at their next generation of platform,” according to Patrick Gelsinger, general manager of Intel’s digital enterprise group. He adds, “That was disappointing.” This is quite a huge blow for Intel, as Apple is planning on selling upwards of 10 million devices this year.
It appears as if Apple wanted to make their own chips for their devices, especially considering their purchase of P.A. Semi a while back. Although this is very disappointing for Intel, it appears as if the iPhone is still going to have a very powerful chip of its own “inside.” After watching some of those iPhone apps demoed at the WWDC keynote, it better.
