Midnight Mansion 1.1.4, a free update to ActionSoft’s popular action/exploration game, has been released. The update can be downloaded from the ActionSoft website and contains the following improvements:
Turned off an output log option that was accidentally left on in version 1.1.0 and later, that may have caused occasional brief pauses in the game while playing.
Fixed a bug in Castle Doom Hard, room 16703 where Jack could get stuck if he fell to his death in the wrong spot.
You can now register the game from any admin account to register it on all user accounts on the computer at once. Just make sure the admin account you use to register the game was not already registered. If it was, follow the instructions in the FAQ.
Midnight Mansion is an action/exploration platformer with 32-bit graphics, spine-tingling sound effects, and professional quality music. As Jack Malone, you will explore eight huge mansions, each filled with traps, puzzles, and secrets, as you search for legendary treasure. Ride on conveyor belts, avoid zapper beams, and dodge monsters as you collect keys that give you access to new areas of each mansion. Non-violent gameplay allows the whole family to enjoy the game. Features include multiple user accounts, online high scores, suspend game, a level editor, and much more.
I’ve played all the way through this game, and must say that it’s one of the better platformers I’ve seen for the Mac. Very well polished for a shareware game, and it harkens back to the glory days of the SNES and Sega Genesis. You can read my review over at Applelinks.
Midnight Mansion requires any Macintosh capable of running MacOS X (PowerPC or Intel), MacOS X 10.1.5 or higher (MacOS X 10.2 or higher recommended), and a minimum 20MB RAM. The game is free to try, and costs $20 to register. This version is a free upgrade for owners of any prior version of Midnight Mansion.
