Ubisoft makes a deal with Transgaming; more games coming to the Mac

Following in the footsteps of Electronic Arts, Ubisoft has signed a deal with Trangaming to wrap their titles in Cider and port them to the Mac. The news has already received mixed reviews. The list of Cider games for the Mac is underwhelming, and it really hasn’t proven itself when it comes to Mac games.

When I heard the news, I was excited. Ubisoft has a lot of game titles that I would love to play on my Mac: Prince of Persia, Assassins Creed, Far Cry 2, and Beyond Good and Evil (which is currently in the pre-development stage.

My initial excitement took an unexpected nosedive when I logged onto the Transgaming website. The first games being ported to the Mac are Catz and Dogz and CSI: Hard Evidence. Uh, yippee? Of all the titles Ubisoft could give Mac users, what on earth would posses Ubi to choose those particular titles? They aren’t exactly top sellers, and how long has it been since they were released on their original platforms? Apparently, Ubisoft is taking it slow.

Am I happy more games are being ported to the Mac? Definitely. But come on, Ubisoft! This is a huge joke, right? Why are you churning out bottom of the barrel titles for Mac users? I’ll keep my eyes peeled to see what other games Ubisoft will be porting to the Mac. I’m hoping Ubisoft will start to port blockbuster games to the Mac; however, if the first game titles are an indication of what Mac users will see, thanks, but no thanks. I’ll keep purchasing my titles from original Mac developers.
