iPhone 3GIf you have been waiting eagerly for your local Apple Store to receive some iPhones, wait no longer. According to TechCrunch, Foxconn, Apple’s Taiwanese iPhone manufacturer, is producing iPhone 3Gs at a rate of 800,000 per week. Doing some quick math, that puts the iPhone 3G production at a whopping 40 million per year. Say goodbye to shortages!

This rate is above the current full capacity for Foxconn, leaving some concern about the quality of the devices. And although this seems like a lot, it may be necessary for Apple, as they plan to offer the iPhone in 70+ countries by the end of the year. I just hope Apple knows what they are doing and keeps the iPhone hardware quality top notch, as we expect.

  1. I wouldn't expect them to maintain that level continuously. I suspect it's just to deal with the shortages, and then it will settle to a lower rate, maybe half the number.

  2. Yeh, this is probably just a burst number for a few weeks otherwise look for Foxconn line employees and quality control managers to stage a walkout.

  3. If this stayed this way, iPhones would just get crappier, right? I mean, the workers get payed by the hour, not how many quality products are being produced. Someone has eventually got to get lazy and let a few things slide.

  4. The launch in Taiwan has been delayed. Probably other countries too. This increased is needed.
