Just a quick update on the status of BoxOffice. It once again is available on the App Store. The developer, Cyrus Najmabadi, is unable to give any details about the reason why BoxOffice was pulled from the App Store in the first place as a result of the iPhone SDK NDA. He’s unhappy with the whole situation, but glad the app is available to the masses once again.
BoxOffice will also be experiencing a name change in the not too distant future. Soon, it will be called “Now Playing.” You can look for it now on the App Store with the name of BoxOffice, and expect more features and bug fixes in future updates that are in the works as you read.
[Update: BoxOffice officially relaunched as Now Playing]
Now the movie information app you’ve come to love and possibly miss is called “Now Playing.” Currently, you can find the app under both names as it is listed on the App Store as “Now Playing (formerly: BoxOffice).”
As far as I can tell, this is the same app as the last update to BoxOffice since they are both version 1.2. So, if you’ve already updated, like I did, then you might not get the updated name as an app update. If the name change is a big deal to you, and let me tell you, it was huge for me, then you can manually download the update by clicking the “Get App” button on it’s page in the App Store. No new features or bug fixes though, unless you really thought the old name was awful; but that’s doubtful.
