It’s out there. Fox has made X-Files branded iPod classics and nanos, available now through their online store. While the front of the iPods remain unchanged, the back has an etched image of Mulder and Scully over the mirror finish. Beneath the image is space left for your name (or a joke name, or a song lyric, etc.) to be engraved for added personalization. The iPod classic is available for $329, a full $70 more than the regular price of a device without any engraving. The iPod nano is available for $269, also $70 more than the original price of the device.
While X-Files was an excellent show, this little gimmick is set to stir up marginal excitement for the film adaptation of the series. Honestly, the film itself is being released way too late, and so is this overblown idea of iPods that match your favorite TV show. Nonetheless, there must be some who love the show just enough to drop this much money on it, which they can as early as today.
