According to the latest NetApplications figures, the iPhone’s browsing marketshare has increased significantly since the release of the iPhone 3G. “The release of the iPhone 3G has brought large gains in web browsing share. Prior to the launch, iPhone usage share had leveled off, but has since resumed its upward trend,” NetApplications explains.
The figures also show some interesting trends. For example, iPhone users are more likely to be browsing on weekends rather than weekdays, where there is a 50-70% spike in usage. Last year, NetApplications also showed that the iPhone had overtaken all Windows Mobile devices in web browsing marketshare.
Apple has definitely made it much easier to browse the web on-the-go with the Safari app on the iPhone and iPod Touch. Before the iPhone, it would have been difficult to view ordinary web pages, as well as very slow. The iPhone 3G makes the experience even better by bringing faster download and upload speeds, which are needed for today’s media-heavy websites.
