Apple TV 3.0 rumorI’ve got one last rumor before we start rocking here, and I certainly want to believe this one. It’s just too good to pass by.

The rumor states that the Apple TV is about to be refreshed along with the iPod nano today. And not just a software update, but new hardware and capabilities as well. Here’s the rumor list.

  • Blu-Ray support
  • Time Capsule functionality
  • Keyboard support
  • Support for iPod touch and iPhone as remotes
  • Digital TV tune
  • Up to 1TB hard drive
  • Built-in Safari browser
  • More video codec support

If this rumor turns out to be true, this could be huge. Since the analog to digital conversion is taking place on February 19th, 2009 this could grab a huge chunk of people if it contained a Digital TV tuner. Plus with keyboard support and built-in Safari browser, it could potentially be a killer computer of sorts for the TV. Not too many of us need a full OS with tons of programs running on our TVs. All this, and I haven’t even mentioned the Blu Ray drive yet!

This kind of sounds like the Mac Mini and the Apple TV are becoming one product. Scaling one back (the Mini) and upgrading the other (the Apple TV). I’d rather see a Mac Mini with a Blu Ray drive, but I’d still take this.

Honestly, this rumor sounds a little too good to be true, though Peter S. Magnusson, founder of Virtutech, has attached his name to this rumor. Will this be true? There’s really not that much time left to wait and find out, but one thing is for certain. If this is true, it will rock!
