Macintosh and iPhone software updatesMacintosh and iPhone software updates and announcements for September 17, 2008:

  • Third Street Software has announced the release of Sente 5.6. This new version of the popular academic reference manager includes an embedded web browser that supports “targeted browsing” – a new feature that enables users to capture reference data from many web sites with a single mouse click.
  • Tidal Pool Software is pleased to announce the release of Receipts 1.0 application for Apple iPhone and iPod Touch. Receipts allows you to easily organize and track your business and personal receipts using your iPhone or iPod Touch. It boasts an easy to use interface but also includes user customization support.
  • NovaMind Connect allows the user to almost instantly take a Mind Map document created in NovaMind and upload it directly from NovaMind to NovaMind Connect, where it is turned into a full HTML version of the document, where you can click on each Mind Map to view the detail of that Mind Map. From there, you see all the branches of the Mind Map in expandable outline form, and you can navigate to each branch either by clicking it on the Mind Map, or in the outline.
  • Apps & More Software Design, Inc. has announced Script Timer 2.6, an update to its popular script, Automator workflow, and application scheduling utility for Mac OS X. With a focus on ease-of-use, Script Timer can schedule the execution of AppleScript, Perl, and Shell scripts, as well as Automator workflows, and applications.
  • publicspace.net has announced the immediate availability of A Better Finder Rename 8. The new version features a new user interface, save-able presets, automatic software updates and a brand new multi-threaded renaming engine that enables the software to automatically resolve file name conflicts, re-order renames to avoid deadlocks and provide an improved interactive experience.
  • Measure anything your iPhone can take a picture of. Just released recently, RulerPhone uses the iPhone’s camera and any credit card-sized item to turn the device into a measuring tape capable of accurately measuring objects ranging from a few inches to well over 10 feet.

  • Ten One Design, LLC, a New York-based design firm specializing in solutions for the mobile lifestyle, has announced that its Pogo Stylus—the world’s first stylus compatible with the iPhone and iPod touch—is fully compatible with the newest iPod touch and iPhone models from Apple in terms of functionality and aesthetic appeal.
  • Griffin Technology Inc., creator of all things iPod and iPhone, today unveiled its latest innovative iPhone accessories at Apple Expo Paris. AirCurve, Griffin’s breakthrough acoustic amplifier dock, actually amplifies and projects the iPhone’s sound without speakers or the use of electricity. Also introduced today, Clarifi is a protective case for iPhone that features a built-in lens for close-up photography.
  • MildMannered Industries is pleased to announce Bakelite 1.0—a beautiful, old-fashioned Bakelite style rotary dialer for the iPhone. Bakelite is gorgeous to look at, with a numbered and lettered dial, and offers smooth accurate dialling, with audio feedback.
  • Cellebrite USA Corp. has announced native support for the universally popular iPhone on their UME-36 synchronization device. Native iPhone support represents a user interface breakthrough, allowing users to transfer a customer’s phonebook from phone to phone over a direct cable connection without requiring a PC or additional software. Over 50,000 Cellebrite UME-36 devices are currently used exclusively by all major carriers in the US, including Verizon Wireless, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, US Cellular and 50 additional carriers.
  • OtterBox has released iPhone 3G protection in the semi-rugged, drop and scratchproof Defender Series design. It’s currently available in black, and coming soon in white, black/yellow and pink. The case accommodates the Apple iPhone 3G 8GB and 16GB with three slim-fit layers of protection, access silence switch, sync/charge, home, sleep/wake, volume, camera and headphone jack.
