Being a Mac user, you’ve probably experienced more than your fair share of headaches as a result of the PC being the industry standard for just about everything. Watching online video is no exception, but Netflix is getting ready to alleviate your headaches before the end of the year with a Mac solution for watching their streaming content online.
If you’re a Netflix subscriber, you already know there are thousands of videos available online to be watched instantly…if you’re running Windows, that is. Other than this limiting factor, the system is actually pretty awesome. Just sign in, pick a movie or TV show that strikes your fancy, and seconds later you’re entertained. No waiting for disks in the mail. Plus, if you are so inclined, you can watch an entire season of a TV show in one sitting. Previously, you’d have to watch one disk’s worth of episodes, send it back, get the next disk, rinse, and repeat.
But today, Netflix has announced they will finally be providing a Mac solution for instantly watching videos online.
And, for all of you Mac users (of which I am one) we’ve been busy working getting a solution that will allow you to watch instantly on your Mac. So hang in there – we’ll have something for you by the end of the year.
I used to fire up VMware Fusion with my copy of Vista to use Netflix’s service. Did it work? Kind of. It’s not exactly instant. After five or so minutes of booting up Windows and logging in, you might lose interest.
In any event, if you are a Netflix subscriber, this news should bring a smile to your face. The longest you’ll have to wait for this functionality is three months.

What about the iPhone/iTouch? Any news that it will work on those devices also? Now that would be sweet.
Netflix is opening their API, so you can probably expect a few apps on the App Store to support your queue, but getting streaming video on the iPhone is probably not going to happen anytime soon. But I'm right there with you. In my opinion, Netflix on the iPhone would further solidify my belief that Netflix is better than cable.
I agree. Netflix has to make its own app to allow streaming video… then we could throw the iPhone/iTouch into our dock and watch on our home theater system. I know they would have to keep the Roku (or any new systems coming out to market) in mind, but then sell the app for 25 bucks or something… I'd buy it as long as the quality of the TV would be good. Their selection of streaming movies is growing daily. Just actually noticed a big jump in available titles today. C'mon Netflix!
