Apple’s Q4 earnings results

AppleApple had yet another phenomenal quarter, selling 11 million iPods, 6.8 million iPhones, and 2.6 million Macs this time around.

Apple posted revenue of $7.9 billion and net quarterly profit of $1.14 billion, or $1.26 per diluted share. This is up from $6.22 billion and net quarterly profit of $904 million, or $1.01 per diluted share one year ago. International sales accounted for 41% of all sales.

Apple sold more iPhones this quarter than in all previous quarters combined, totaling 6.89 million. This is in contrast to just over 1 million in the year ago quarter. This is a huge number, especially when compared to the iPod number, 11 million, which is only slightly more than 4 million more than iPhones. When considering that iPhones come in only two models and start at $200 with a $70/month plan, and iPods are four lines, each with myriad models and starting at just $49, the 6.8 million number is amazing.

Macintosh (yes, they still use that word) sales grew quite a bit as well. Apple shipped 2,611,000 Macintosh computers during the quarter, which is 21 percent unit growth and 17 percent revenue growth over last year. Meanwhile, what are all the PC manufacturers’ numbers looking like, I wonder…
