Mac OS X Snow LeopardAccording to recent screen shots from Snow Leopard’s most recent build (build 10A190) that have been floating around, the next version of Apple’s operating system will contain iPhone-like text correction. The screen shots that contain this feature come from Apple’s TextEdit application and have three separate options. One option is for spelling auto-correction as you type, the second is to insert “smart dashes” as the user types, and the third is your generic text replacement. Although they are only seen on TextEdit now, they could easily be expanded to all of the OS.

I love the text auto-correction on my iPhone, and it seems to work very well most of the time. It should be interesting to see how well this works on an actual computer with a full sized keyboard, where mistakes may not be as common as on the iPhone. If it does appear on Snow Leopard, I will definitely be turning it on right away to test it out and see how it works. If the iPhone is anything to go by, I’m excited.
