Ocarina Spirit iconAs you’ve no doubt noticed, we here at Appletell are big fans of the Ocarina for iPhone, produced by Smule. But we’re not the only ones: the app is, as of this writing, currently the #1 paid application in the iTunes Store.

But can it hold on to this spot, now that it is (gasp) no longer the only Ocarina app available? That’s right, kids, the moment we’ve all been waiting for is now upon us:

Ocarina Wars

Ocarina spirit screenshotOcarina Spirit from MiraBar software is now available for iPhone and iPod touch for $0.99. From their press release (edited for clarity):

We initially started to develop this application in September 2008, probably at the same time as the Smule company. [Ed: Snap!]

Smule people have been faster than us for finalizing the application and therefore, we lost the benefit of an exclusivity on the Apple store!

Nevertheless, our «ocarina spirit» application offers some great and highly different features, giving you many additional opportunities…

Like the opportunity for iPod touch to users to buy it because it is possible you have the choice to play only with your fingers without blowing.

Translation? It’s on.

Features available include:

  • Show or hide charts
  • Metromone
  • Three different kinds of Ocarina (emphasis mine)
  • 3 demo songs in trainee mode
  • chromatic an diatonic charts in “C”

Is the world big enough for two Ocarina applications? Will there be “throw downs” between rival gangs of electronic Ocarina enthusiasts? Will the iTunes store, and perhaps Apple itself, be torn asunder? Yes, no, and definitely not, but stay tuned for further developments (and a forthcoming review) from Ocarina Wars.

  2. Ok. So I went and bought Ocarina Spirit. I also had already bought the first Ocarina.

I like the smule ocarina very much, it is pretty easy to play and sounds nice. The Ocarina Spirit is pretty rough to say the least. The sound is kindof funky and it seems like it needs alot more work. I don't think many people will really like the ocarina spirit more than the smule one.

    just my opinion

  3. Ok,

I I also bought ocarina spirit and i have the first one

    My opinion is different,

for me smule ocarina is too much basic, it s very difficult to play, because you have to blow à lot.

there is no training mode, no scale charts appear when you play,

the other one is pretty usefull, there's a beat box, song to learn nice graphisms and much moore,

    but this my opinion

    who's next ?

    fireman
  4. I also try Trumpet Improv from Mirabar and it's a really good way to learn Trumpet with your Iphone

    Just try it
