Despite Steve Jobs comment saying that Apple couldn’t successfully build a suitable notebook for under the $1,000 price range, Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster still believes that Apple will announce one in 2009. The reason Munster believes that Apple will be able to introduce this $800 notebook is because they already have the perfect platform in their MacBook Air. He says Apple could easily develop an 11 inch version of this laptop to market for around $900. If Apple’s 12% share price jump on Monday over analyst news that Apple will be able to sell plenty of MacBooks in this economy is of any importance, then who knows that this product would be able to do.

Although Munster, as well as everyone else, would love to see this product, it’s worth pointing out that Apple is selling more $1,200 aluminum MacBooks than its $999 white plastic entry models. Although there are plenty of reasons this may be so, it does show that many of Apple’s customers are willing to pay more that $1,000 for their laptop. On top of all of these numbers, Munster also says Apple could release a sub $199 dollar iPhone that is lacking in 3G and/or GPS. His reasoning for this is how Apple decided to tier their highly popular iPod into various models for different customers. All of this analyzing will definitely be fun to watch.
