Apple releases QuickTime 7.5.7, addresses playback via Mini DisplayPort

Apple has released a QuickTime update for the new MacBooks, MacBook Pros and MacBook Airs. The update fixes some issues relating to playback of standard definition iTunes content.

We reported a few days ago that there are some iTunes playback issues with content from the iTunes Store on the new notebooks with displays that are not HDPC compliant, though it was not known exactly what content was protected.

This update is recommended for owners of MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro with Mini DisplayPort. The update addresses an issue where some standard definition purchases from the iTunes Store do not play on some external displays.

The update is available from the Apple downloads page or directly from Software Update. A restart is required.

Apple has yet to confirm which content from the iTunes store is protected and requires an HDCP compliant display, but this update should allow all standard definition content to be played without the HDCP requirement.
