iPhone 3G Video OutArs Technica has recently found some undocumented features of the SDK in the new iPhone 2.2 software. Perhaps the most interesting of these features is the MPTVOutWindow class. This class allows developers to output the iPhone’s screen to a larger screen, such as a TV, thereby taking advantage of its speakers and size. The user still uses the iPhone and its accelerometer to maneuver in a game such as Moto Chaser, which is shown in the demo.

The output is currently only 20 frames per second, while most commercial games are around 30fps. If the iPhone and iPod Touch can reach those speeds, it will be all the more better. All together, the whole development process to get this feature integrated into their game only cost the company about three hours of work, which was mostly due to XCode provisioning issues. When this hits Super Monkey Ball, you can definitely count me in! Who needs an Apple TV for YouTube when you can use your iPhone now?
