The iPhone 3G already owes some of its parts to Broadcom, so it’s quite likely we could see this in a future iPhone. This is exciting for anyone who’s bought into the 802.11n standard with a router that supports it. Running two networks is a pain, so it’s great to see parts like this available to manufacturers so they can put them in new products. Eliminating slower wireless network cards is key to speeding up your network. And then there’s the FM radio. How awesome would it be if you could eliminate the FM transmitter in between you and your radio?
Sadly, Gizmodo says that current mobile browsers just can’t handle the speeds this chip can provide. But, that’s the magic of the future.
