Ever wondered when iTunes for games would be released? It already has. Game retailer Macgamestore.com has released a new application that allows users to buy and download games in one click, Mac Games Arcade. For me, this is reminiscent of Real Arcade for Windows a few years ago, a similar application that allowed the purchase and downloading of games straight from an application, but better Macgamestore than Real.
The app, available freely in open beta, handles everything from purchase to download, as well as allowing the user to download demos, read reviews, see screenshots, and more. Browsing by category is easy with styles of games displayed on the left side of the app, and best sellers displayed directly under. Games are auto-registered if the game is DRM free, and the application maintains a library of games, as well as reinstalls them if necessary. Over 100 developers sell through Macgamestore, with their work available through Mac Games Arcade.
Personally, this is really exciting. Not being a big gamer, this app might encourage me to buy some games to pass some time. Although in beta, Mac Games Arcade feels promising, and can only improve.
