Microsoft has done the unthinkable and released an app on the App Store. It’s called Seadragon, and it allows you to browse Photoshynth collections and other images on your iDevice. Here’s what the developers have to say about it.
Seadragon Mobile brings the same smooth image browsing you get on the PC to the mobile platform. Get super-close in on a map or photo, with just a few pinches or taps of your finger. Browse an entire collection of photos from a single screen. You can browse Deep Zoom Images that you can create from your own pictures or your Photosynth collection (or anybody else’s).
The most exciting feature here is Deep Zoom. With it, you can zoom to incredible levels.
Seadragon might be fun and all, but the real news here is that Microsoft is not straying away from the App Store. I don’t see why they should. They make software for Macs, why can’t they make software for iPhones and iPod Touches? The app’s description says we can expect more in the future from Live Labs. I’m not holding my breath, but Mobile Office could be useful.
