Aspyr, one of the biggest names in Mac gaming, is rumored to to have laid off “more than a dozen” full-time temps, in addition to “some” regular full time employees, according to Kotaku. More layoffs are expected—again, according to the rumor.
Aspyr’s not commenting, and you might expect temps to get let go after a Christmas rush—it all depends on where they’re working: shipping or programming? But if the company is in trouble (and that’s a big, big “if”), then it’s bad news for Mac gaming. Aspyr’s been around in ’96, porting a lot of the blockbusters back when “Mac Gaming” was still profanity at Cupertino. The company has been branching out over the last few years, publishing games for Windows and Xbox, and into more unusual areas of distribution like documentaries and albums. But I suppose that if you can make a successful company out of Macintosh video games, you probably feel like you can do anything.
