A multitouch future for the Mighty Mouse?

Multitouch Mighty MouseMacBlogz has put together a fantastic article about what they think might be the future of the Mighty Mouse. This possible future is based upon numerous patents filed by Apple and some speculation.

The Mighty Mouse debuted in August of 2005, and has since received only a small design change in 2007. The Mighty Mouse has been and continues to be an amazing device, albeit with a few flaws. It’s Apple’s only multibutton mouse, though these buttons are simulated with touch sensitivity, save the squeeze activated button. Recent patents have expanded upon that touch sensitivity bringing it into the realm of multitouch.

MacBlogz thinks the future of the Mighty Mouse involves an aluminum redesign and a multitouch piece of glass that would be not that different from the newest MacBooks. The front portion of the slimmer device would house the glass and fully support multitouch gestures. This mouse makes sense since it would open up the world of multitouch gestures to those without the newest notebooks from Apple. Plus, its design would better match the aluminum of which Apple has become so fond.

Multitouch Mighty Mouse

I really like the overall design of this possible future for the Mighty Mouse. As much as I like the scroll ball, I’d like to see it replaced with multitouch glass since dirt wouldn’t prevent it from working like the current Mighty Mouse. Not to mention, I wouldn’t mind the Mighty Mouse slimming down a bit as it’s a bit bigger than I need it to be.
