The Unofficial Apple Weblog has revived an old rumor for this year’s Macworld as, according to them, a trusted source has informed them that an AT&T tethering plan may be announced this year. Although they point out that this announcement may not make the actual keynote (by Phil, of course), it may be announced via a simple press release. As was reported a while back, the numbers still stand at a $30 a month addition to the current plans. However, this isn’t bad compared to the $60 for EV-DO.
With as many iPhone users as there are these days, this would be great for both AT&T and Apple. Not only will it make the iPhone that much more useful, it will also bring in more revenue for AT&T, as well as more users for their network. The only hope I have is that the speeds are fast enough and AT&T prepares enough for how much extra load this may add to their coverage. If this is executed successfully (and actually true), look for a happy iPhone crowd!
