The idea behind this application for the iPhone or iPod Touch is to actually help you make a decision. This is not a game or an attempt and a magic 8 ball kind of thing, this is an actual productivity decision maker. I don’t think I want a phone to make decisions for me, but that is what the developer is trying to accomplish here. What Mydecider does is take a set of criteria you designate and rate the importance to you and calculates a decision based on the input. Again, that is something I would not want my phone to do for me.

decision1

In the few days I have spent with this application, I have not been able to figure out the algorithms that are used to actually make the decision. What this tells me is that the developer has actually put a lot of work into the application and has built something that is actually worth using to make low level decisions. You can see in the screen shots that I used the application to help me decide what kind of beer to drink. This is the kind of decision I would let my phone make for me.

decision2

This application has a look and feel of a complex compiler. What I mean is that it seems like there is a gigantic database of wonderful information on the back-end of the application. This is a testament to the look and feel of the application, which is well designed and easy to use. There are not any complicated features or bells and whistles involved, and the graphics are sufficient for a text only application.

decision3

My biggest caveat, as I’ve mentioned, is that I’m a big boy I can make my own decisions. I do hope the developer continues to write code for the iPhone/iPod Touch, maybe with some better ideas for applications though. I wouldn’t pay more than $0.99 for MyDecider, but because I am not into having my phone make a decision for me, I’m not really the target audience.
