One feature that the iPhone has been missing since its original release in 2007 is MMS, otherwise known as picture messaging. Supported on many modern mobile phones, Apple seemed to have left MMS out on the iPhone. However, rumor has it that AT&T is working on alternative ways to send photos from iPhone to iPhone, and beyond.
The catch is that it’s not new technology. The rumored system works as follows: One user uploads a photo, which is then compressed. A link is sent to the recipient, who can then open the image and view it in a web browser. The link would expire in short time (approximately 48 hours), allowing time for the recipient to view or save the image. Utilizing the “Save Image” functionality found in Mobile Safari, this system would be a quick, efficient, and hopefully temporary fix, as many hope for Apple to integrate MMS natively. However, rumors of such have not appeared quite yet.
