The title of this application is 100% on target; it’s a cat piano for your iPhone/iPod touch. The first thing I did after installing it was go to the developer’s website to get some more information—as I always do when doing a review—and I was met by five words. No site, no nothing, just five words saying, “E-mail catpianofortheiphone@gmail.com for correspondence.” Not too cool, George. It does not take a lot of time, nor an expert at HTML to put up web page, and if I took the time to write the application in the first place, I would be proud enough to dedicate a web site to it. But that is just me.

As for a piano? The application is actually pretty good at it. Anyone who knows anything about music will notice that the piano is just a couple of notes larger than an entire octave (14 notes total). All of the notes are tuned perfectly per my software tuner on my Mac. The keyboard is highly responsive, even when using glissando (the act of dragging your fingers back and forth across multiple keys). You can also play polyphonic chords, which is kind of overkill, if you ask me; it is not enjoyable to me to listen to multiple cats in C-minor. Another neat feature is the fact that you can display the notes on the keys. Nice touch.

I decided to put this application through some real world tests. I have two cats at home and I wanted to see how they reacted to the cat piano. There are nine voices available to use in the application, and if your cats are anything link mine, the Asthma kitty and Forlorn voices will piss them off. They did, however, enjoy Furball and both of the Meow Mixes. The grand piano option is actually quit good. I almost wish George would take to writing an application for the piano with different voices that do not involve animals.

Overall, a good application with a lot of cool features. It does have an annoyance factor after a certain amount of time. The developer has not dedicated the time to put up a site about the application, but I don’t think that hurts the application. Nothing crazy special here, but if you’re a cat owner or lover and have an iPhone or iPod touch, I would spend the 99 cents.
