Just as the iPhone operating system that we all know and love today is based off of Mac OS X, Mac OS X will now be using features that were originally developed for the iPhone Touch OS. Recent scouring of the most recent Snow Leopard release shows that developers can now use the CoreLocation framework that was previously only for the iPhone SDK. This will allow Macs, like the first version of the iPhone, to use a sort of triangulation technique to find their current location. Although it won’t be as amazing as the iPhone GPS, it will be a nice step towards that direction.
These same developers have also said they are able to access some of the multi-touch programming interfaces that were previously only in the iPhone SDK. There is a good chance that these have just been added to expand even further upon Snow Leopard. But that reason wouldn’t be any fun, would it? There is also a chance that this inclusion could be hinting at upcoming hardware additions to Macs, such as multi touch or GPS. What do you think?
