Although Apple doesn’t exactly have the best reputation with batteries, the electronics company has filed a patent for universal batteries; essentially, batteries that would fit all devices.
The batteries would be able to charge outside of the device via a wall charger and would fit into different enclosures to fit to a variety of devices. Wireless technology would be used for alerting and displaying power levels for different batteries and devices in a network, and would find batteries that are “full” to replace the current (assumedly, dying) battery. Devices would automatically drain or charge batteries to maintain them, with magnets being used to prevent the battery from working until seated in a valid device. Desktop computers and keyboards would have slots that charge these batteries as well, allowing more opportunities for charging.
Hopefully we’ll see this concept implemented into Apple’s line of products soon.
