What’s another day without another iPhone rumor? No worries, we’ve got you covered. Today’s rumor is brought to you by the folks at iPodObserver. They’re talking about A1303, and no, it’s not a super old George Lucas film, it’s supposedly an iPhone model number. It was found on a very convincing picture of the backside of an unreleased 16GB matte black iPhone.

Matte Black iPhone 16GBAt first, you might just think this is a user mod or a Photoshop, and I’m not saying it’s not. Even still, it has a different model number than any previously released iPhone, model A1303 (like we haven’t heard that one before; plus you’d have to be a pretty bad Photoshopper to let that one slip). Recall that iPodObserver had a leaked iPhone 3G image up that proved to be accurate, so that gives them a measure of believability.

If it is real, number one, I think it’s a step in the right direction. The iPhone 3G is too slick, and I know I’m not the only one who worries about scratches and fingerprints. Secondly, if it’s true, you can thank me, because I just upgraded to an iPhone 3G this week, so this kind of news was pretty much innevitable.

  1. It looks like a case. There is a hole where the camera should be…….

  2. I think it is a case also. I guess only time will tell but I wouldn't be surprised to see a new iPhone dropping soon.

  3. 16gb iphone is real. but this one isnt, this is just a back casing.

  4. I agree, it does look kind of like a case, and a neat one at that. I'd probably buy it. But there are two things that keep me from thinking it's a case. First, there's that Apple bit at the bottom. But it wouldn't be that hard to get the same effect with Photoshop. Second, the hole for the camera is recessed, which would allow for the piece of glass embedded in the casing.

Either way, I hope Apple moves away from shiny plastic on any future iPhones.
