There are not a lot of physical pieces to this application. What it does is give you advice to help you raise your children to be “socially acceptable.” Now, I know my kids did not come with a manual. I would venture to guess yours did not either. Some pieces of being a parent are “hard coded” in us humans, though. I would not send my 3-year-old son to pre-school in a dress. I would not let my 12-year-old daughter go to the mall unaccompanied. I like to refer to these things as common sense. Sometimes, though, we do need a little help. Sometimes, we can use a new idea of which maybe we have not thought.
Enter Empower for the iPhone or iPod touch. This application offers a daily idea or reminder that will help you empower your children to be better people. For instance, the page for today states to teach my sons about fashion, stating it is not just for girls. Nice idea. Fingering through the pages for the last few days, I can see the writers of the daily pages are actually aiming at parents and children alike. Think of this application as a daily tear off calender on your desk. Each day is another suggestion.
I do have to say this, though (and it is to be expected); not all of them make sense to everyone. You cannot make everyone happy all the time. I have a 3-year-old sitting in my lap right now, and guess what? I am not going to go to the gym and work out with him (he is stronger than me, though). Most of the suggestions are geared towards adolescents, pre-teens, and young teenagers. If you have children in this age range, there are some really good ideas. The suggestion that they start a diary is an example of what you will see with this application from day to day.
The bottom line here is that if you are looking for some good ideas to suggest to your pre-teen or adolescent, I can definitely recommend this application.
