Last time we talked, I wrote about how to use your resources wisely in order to be a successful developer and find quick solutions to your questions and problems. This week I am going to talk about what it is like after you get your apps out there and into the world. This is truly where the real fun begins. First, there is the initial excitement of people out there enjoying something you have spent many hours on. It is great to see something you put your heart into during its development actually make it out into the real world. Then, you realize that although it can feel great, your job isn’t done.
During the initial release of a product, there are always going to be questions and maybe even some bugs that users find that you weren’t aware of. This is where the tech support of your journey as a developer comes in, as you want to leave a lasting impression on the customers that you care about them (and hopefully you do). Although it can be really fun, it can also be kind of stressful. Most of the time, you may have other projects underway or not enough time to answer all the e-mails you may receive, yet you may feel obligated to. Either way, it is part of the fun of being a developer.
Yet, even after the initial release and all the joy that comes along with that, there is your overall product life cycle. Most apps have updates that come afterwords that either add features or fix some of the existing ones. This life cycle can be as long as is needed or as long as people continue to use your product, and it is very important. Many people expect that when they purchase or use a product, the creator will remain loyal to it for as long as it benefits him. Also, updates can keep applications fresh and draw more users into using them, a plus for everyone.
All that said, I am currently going through this very process, and it is quite interesting to see it develop. I know it is only going to better as time goes on, though. Right now, I would like to offer up three promotional codes to each of my three applications: iCardCounter, Nonsensical and Omniscient. To get them, make sure you’re registered with Appletell, then request your app of choice in the comments below. Three promo codes for each app will be given out on a first come, first served basis.
