Compass. If only the Blair Witch kids had this.

6:55 pm Bill Stiteler said:

But what if you sing along?

6:55 pm Kirk Hiner said:

Everything is 2 to 3x faster: loading and browsing, that is.

6:47 pm Kirk Hiner said:

Here we go. Glad I stayed up.

6:47 pm Bill Stiteler said:

No change in the design?

6:47 pm Bill Stiteler said:

iPhone 3GS: S stands for “speed.”

6:47 pm Kirk Hiner said:

The same argument PC users used to make about the Mac. No apps.

6:46 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Phil disses the Pre numbers. owie.

6:44 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Phil’s back.

6:44 pm Bill Stiteler said:

OS 3 comes out June 17th worldwide

6:43 pm Kirk Hiner said:

6:42 pm Bill Stiteler said:

I survived the parade of iPhone developers ’09.

6:42 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Thank God, it’s over.

6:42 pm Kirk Hiner said:

Don’t charge the corner, Steve!

6:41 pm Bill Stiteler said:

What’s this? Steve Jobs is rushing the stage with a folding chair!

6:41 pm Bill Stiteler said:

*twiddles thumbs*

6:41 pm Kirk Hiner said:

More technical difficulties. It’s a sign. GET OFF THE STAGE!

6:39 pm Bill Stiteler said:

I really need an OS 3 app taht makes this presentation go faster.

6:39 pm Kirk Hiner said:

Line 6 and Planet Waves have a pretty looking app for connecting your iPhone to a guitar + amp, but again, this is late evening press release stuff. Not Apple Keynote stuff.

6:39 pm Bill Stiteler said:

You can now use your iPhone as a wah-wah pedal. Well, actually, you can hook it up to an amp and a guitar and get effects.

6:38 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Steve never would’ve put up with this.

6:38 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Another developer?

6:38 pm Kirk Hiner said:

“Can anyone with an iPhone steal your car? News at 11!”

6:38 pm Bill Stiteler said:

CAN THE IPHONE CAN UNLOCK YOUR CAR… WITH YOUR CHILDREN INSIDE?

6:37 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Ha. You can unlock the car using your iPhone. Wait until the local news hears about this.

6:37 pm Kirk Hiner said:

This is the easiest keynote I’ve ever had to cover. Speed typing not required today.

6:36 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Tap a map, it shows you were the nearest car is. Wait, isn’t this Grand Theft Auto 4?

6:36 pm Kirk Hiner said:

Does anyone need a car 24/7?

6:35 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Now demoing Zipcar, which is a car borrowing service for people who don’t need a car 24/7.

6:34 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Okay, I guess this is going to two hours.

6:34 pm Kirk Hiner said:

Do developers really want to see other developers’ work?

6:34 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Five bucks says some kid gets arrested using his iPhone to play doctor

6:33 pm Kirk Hiner said:

I’m going to develop a map that monitors radiation levels so it can be a prop in a 50s sci-fi movie.

6:32 pm Bill Stiteler said:

demoing an app that lets users record scientific data… the iPhone is now officially a tricorder.

6:32 pm Kirk Hiner said:

I feel like the judge at a science fair. Where’s the kid with the baking soda volcano app?

6:31 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Are they going to let every iPhone developer show off their project?

6:30 pm Kirk Hiner said:

And…more developers.

6:30 pm Kirk Hiner said:

Well, there’s SOMETHING that’s available today. Star Defense. Have at it.

6:29 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Boy, imagine if Apple had given this much of a damn about games in ’84?

6:28 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Running out of time for the iPhone 3G… gonna be blood if we don’t see it.

6:28 pm Kirk Hiner said:

Yeah, running out of room for any sort of big announcement.

6:27 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Can you tell us when we can have the damn thing?

6:27 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Look, we know OS 3 is amazing. THAT’S WHY WE’RE HERE.

6:27 pm Kirk Hiner said:

ngmoco:) is up next. These guys are good.

6:26 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Also powers iPhone, lets you play music, and boosts GPS

6:26 pm Kirk Hiner said:

Yep, optional car kit to hang it off your window, and such.

6:25 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Realtime GPS. I assume you’ll need to buy a subscription, rather than just an app.

6:24 pm Kirk Hiner said:

Apps and accessories to complete the package.

6:23 pm Bill Stiteler said:

GPS maker TomTom is up now. Interesting to see how this works against Maps.

6:23 pm Kirk Hiner said:

Hey, TomTom. This’ll please the GPS masses.

6:23 pm Kirk Hiner said:

By the way, I dig the new transparent blue tint of the pop-up windows. You’ll all see what I mean in the screen shots and video.

6:23 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Textbooks on the iPhone. And a million college bookstores cried out in anguish.

6:22 pm Bill Stiteler said:

And the Iphone declares war on the Kindle. Yo-ho!

6:22 pm Kirk Hiner said:

Looks like Apple is going after the kindle, although the two really don’t compare.

6:22 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Megan Fox is AOK, but the Kama Sutra is a no-no, kids!

6:21 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Demoing how you can buy a magazine or book using their app.

6:20 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Digital Books!? Those are the pornographic tools of Satan!
At least, according to the iPhone approvers.

6:20 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Question: who’s really going to be monitoring this?

6:19 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Very Star Trek. Wonder if they’ll build this into Nike+ iPod?

6:19 pm Kirk Hiner said:

Streams EKG.

6:18 pm Kirk Hiner said:

I’ll laugh if he talks about an app that’ll predict the date of your death.

6:18 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Allows people to update their doctors with their medical info over 3G and wifi.

6:17 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Sort of the the same thing they did at the OS3 announcment. Now we’re talking to a medical developer.

6:16 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Which was, of course, “so baaaaad.”

6:16 pm Kirk Hiner said:

Racing games go well with the iPhone, but yeah…something new, please.

6:16 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Am I the only person who hates the tilt interface? Reminds me of the Nintendo Power Glove.

6:16 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Hurray, a racing game. i don’t care

6:16 pm Kirk Hiner said:

Don’t they always, though? At least it’s Gameloft…pretty big in the mobile gaming world.

6:15 pm Bill Stiteler said:

I hate when these product announcements turn into a commercial.

6:14 pm Kirk Hiner said:

Obligatory parade of developers showing off what they’ve done with iPhone 3.0.

6:14 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Oh god, another video?

6:13 pm Kirk Hiner said:

And now, Push notification.

6:13 pm Kirk Hiner said:

Developers get access to the “heart” of Google Maps to use in their own apps.

6:11 pm Kirk Hiner said:

Better integration/functionality with hardware accessory manufacturers. This is something else we knew, but hopefully we’ll see some cool products here.

6:11 pm Kirk Hiner said:

Peer to peer support for finding close proximity gamers.

6:10 pm Kirk Hiner said:

Hopefully, that’ll result in better games. I’m all for this.

6:10 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Subsscription-based purchasing for magazines and game levels

6:09 pm Kirk Hiner said:

You can erase all data remotely. That’s cool…but dangerous.

6:08 pm Bill Stiteler said:

You can remotely erase your phone if you think its been stolen, then back it up if you do get it back.

6:08 pm Bill Stiteler said:

If someone finds your phone, they can call you to tell you.

6:08 pm Kirk Hiner said:

I subscribe to Mobile Me. I deserve that perk. Take that, everyone else!

6:07 pm Bill Stiteler said:

it can even play an alert sound in silent mode so you can find it.

6:07 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Log into a web browser, and you’ll see a map of where your phone is.

6:07 pm Bill Stiteler said:

to use Find My iphone, you have to have MobileMe. Sneaky, apple.

6:06 pm Kirk Hiner said:

That’s what my kids are for. Also, find the remote.

6:06 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Find my Iphone feature!

6:03 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Not taht I HAVE an iPhone, but it really speaks to the state of cell phone carriers in the US

6:03 pm Kirk Hiner said:

Imagine that. Good thing we have writers overseas, eh?

6:03 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Sigh… no AT&T support at launch. Sucksville.

5:55 pm Kirk Hiner said:

Whoot! Whoot! Whoot!

5:55 pm Bill Stiteler said:

“Hey, is there anyone here who likes… SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT???”

5:54 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Just to remind everyone that if you can get your app ON the iPhone, it’s great.

5:53 pm Bill Stiteler said:

It’s a video for developers about developers and how much they love the iPhone.

5:53 pm Kirk Hiner said:

More fast forward material in the video when you check it out later today.

5:51 pm Kirk Hiner said:

I mean, we’re watching one, yeah. I’m not saying the iPhone Video was announced…yet.

5:50 pm Kirk Hiner said:

Video.

5:50 pm Bill Stiteler said:

5:42 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Autodiscover should take care of teh config for you (hallelujah): just enter your name and password.

5:42 pm Bill Stiteler said:

I’m not sure if this is a good thing: I like keeping my work and home accounts completely separate. Wonder if MS will kill off Entourage.

5:42 pm Kirk Hiner said:

That may be useful.

5:41 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Exchange support in Mail, iCal, and Address Book

5:41 pm Kirk Hiner said:

Or DID he?!

5:41 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Oh, pishaw, Kirk, he disappeared after his face was horribly disfigured.

And now, the wonders of 64 bit software.

5:35 pm Bill Stiteler said:

1 click to upload to Youtube and MobileMe.

5:34 pm Kirk Hiner said:

Cool. It’ll be more useful to me now than iMovie is.

5:34 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Which makes sense, considering they give iMovie away, but still: nice to see.

5:34 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Oh wow. They’re going to give basic editing away for free in Quicktime now.

5:33 pm Kirk Hiner said:

It’s a whole new QuickTime 10, but we new that from the shiny new icon.

5:33 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Safari 4 can browser history like iTunes album covers.

5:32 pm Kirk Hiner said:

Not sure how I feel about that.

5:28 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Adopting teh video interface of iTunes.

5:27 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Changing the GUI of Quicktime? Uh oh…

That’s good news for me: something I do a lot.

5:23 pm Bill Stiteler said:

They’re finally fixing text selection in PDFs using preview.

5:23 pm Kirk Hiner said:

Is that even possible? It’s like Mystery Hill where water flows up!

5:22 pm Bill Stiteler said:

After you install Snow Leopard, you’ll get 6 GB back. Install is also faster.

5:22 pm Kirk Hiner said:

I guess that means I’ll have to start using Expose.

5:21 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Expose is being written into the Dock.

5:21 pm Kirk Hiner said:

Seems nearly everything is being refined in Snow Leopard. I wouldn’t have thought that much needed refining.

5:20 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Rewritten the basic code of the finder without changing it. Huh?

5:20 pm Bill Stiteler said:

One of the improvements in Snow Leopard is Exchange support. Wait, didn’t you just say Windows wasn’t working?

5:20 pm Kirk Hiner said:

I don’t think Apple needs to be kicking Microsoft when they’re done. We’re starting to look like the bad guys.

5:19 pm Bill Stiteler said:

“No user should have to use disk defragmenter.” Yeah, but it takes me an hour to repair permissions…

5:18 pm Kirk Hiner said:

Talking smack about Vista: always good for a laugh.

5:17 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Moving on to Leopard now.

5:16 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Macbook air is getting updated… no surprise there.

5:16 pm Kirk Hiner said:

What’s replacing the MacBook, then? A Netbook, maybe?

5:15 pm Bill Stiteler said:

99 for the 13″

5:15 pm Bill Stiteler said:

wait, wait wait… 13″ Macbook is now a Macbook Pro, with nonremovable battery?

13″ Mac is now a MacBook Pro at the MacBook price.

5:14 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Man, the difference between a Macbook and a Pro is disappearing.

5:14 pm Kirk Hiner said:

Anyone want to buy a used MacBook, then?

5:14 pm Bill Stiteler said:

I wonder how many video camera owners complained to get that.

5:14 pm Kirk Hiner said:

And there it is! FireWire 800 is back in the MacBook!

5:13 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Focus on the MacBook line at the moment.

Quick request of our readers before we get going. If you’re enjoying the blog, do us a favor and give us a DIGG on the button up there on your left. It’ll make my boss so very happy.

4:52 pm Kirk Hiner said:

Oh. Bill. I didn’t see you there.

4:51 pm Bill Stiteler said:

Okay, let’s do this.

Apple keynote music selection question; does Apple select bands because they’re trendy, or does being played during an Apple keynote make you trendy? Discuss.

The press is now inside the hall.

4:25 pm Kirk Hiner said:

Right now, this kind of all serves as a painful reminder that we won’t be experiencing this type of excitement at next year’s Macworld Expo.

4:23 pm Kirk Hiner said:

I’m amused by the number of companies sending out press releases today. Do they think anything other than the keynote is going to get coverage?

Of all the rumors and speculation going on, I’ll be thrilled if we just get a new iPhone, available today. My first gen phone could use a replacement this afternoon.

Phil Schiller may still be sleeping, but I’m up, eagerly anticipating today’s announcements. Kind of wish I could do this directly from an Apple Store, so I could just turn around and buy whatever’s announced.

  11. Can't wait to see what the Apple gang brings us. Of course I'm hoping the new iPhone hardware announcement is in the mix as well as an update and an actual release date for Snow Leopard but I'll take pretty much anything they can throw at us. Not sure about the Macbook/Macbook Pro announcements but it would be sweet. I've read recently that a couple folks believe there could be a new and secret product announcement, I'm not holding my breath on that one but if it does happen it will feel like Christmas morning when I was 8. Even before the keynote begins, here's to Apple and today's event! Hip Hip Hooray! If I were to win a Just Mobile Xtand for iPhone on top of all that Apple will bring to us today? I don't know what I would do! Talk about the proverbial "cherry on top"!

  12. To be honest, I'm hoping for the new iPhone hardware is part of today's announcement because I'm quite sick of the PalmPre people already (even with their new cool gadgets).

I'm also psyched about a release date for Snow Leopard.

    Please …. please.
