Today, Windows announced the official pricing for Windows 7 for users who are upgrading, as well as for users who just want a new copy of the operating system. The prices are lower than we have seen before from the software giant, but they are still not nearly as low as Apple and Snow Leopard. That said, people around the net have declared Snow Leopard a “service pack,” while claiming that Windows 7 is a whole new operating system. Whichever you decide to agree with, the fact still remains that Apple’s new OS is cheaper than Microsoft’s by a long shot.
For upgrading users, the price of Windows 7 are as follows: Home Premium – $119.99; Professional – $199.99; Ultimate – $219.99. As you can see, Microsoft has gotten the number of versions down to three, but three is still an unnecessary number. Apple’s Snow Leopard comes in at only one price for a single user upgrading from Leopard: $29. Even if Windows 7 is a larger update, the $100 or so price differential is still rather big, if you ask me.

Considering it is looked at as a Vista upgrade, and Snow Leopard is more or less a Leopard upgrade, as you say the difference in price between the two OS' is incredible. Way to turn more people off Microsoft. Can't wait for Snow Leopard- I'll be first in the queue!
