More free apps? Yes, yes, I know. Free apps are the best, or at least it’s fun to get something for free that isn’t complete crap. Here is this week’s list of the best of the freebies from the past week. I hope you find something you like.
- Rise&Shine – Let’s face it, you’re basically useless for the first hour you’re awake in the morning. And you probably aren’t even fully capable of using your iPhone, either, so why not just let it tell you a small amount of useful information. It givea you the time in big beautiful digits, the local weather and a 5 day forecast with a tap of the finger. But let’s not get too complicated, right? If you insist, Kensington makes a docking accessory just for this so you can use it as a bedside clock.
- Clip2Mobile – You could just email yourself some info, but that might not be your favorite way of doing stuff. That’s what this app is for. You can send notes, contacts, launch Maps, send over bookmarks, pictures music, videos, and pdfs all with this app. Sounds like a great app for free.
- textPlus – Another free SMS app for the iPhone or iPod touch. It’s still not the optimal SMS experience since the recipients of the messages likely won’t know who it’s coming from based on the sender’s number, so you’ll have to identify yourself the first few times. But if you really can’t afford texting, or if you have an iPod touch, it’s better than nothing. I’m fairly certain that this app doesn’t support push notifications. Too bad; that would be awesome.
- Pocket Ruler – Not sure what you need to be measuring with your iPhone, but this ruler app could prove itself to be useful in certain situations. You can even measure things longer than the iPhone’s screen since the ruler actually slides.
- Rope’n'Fly Lite – This game lets you pretend to be Spider-man. Well, kind of. It’s a 2D side scroller with ragdoll physics. The lite version is time restricted, but this looks like a lot of fun nonetheless.
- Car Jack Streets LITE – Take a stab at glorified lawlessness in this GTA-like game for the iPhone. Not only is it like the original GTA, it’s made by some of the same guys who helped make the original GTA, so you know you’re in for a similar experience.
- LEGO Batman: Gotham City Games Lite – Holy hand grenades Batman, a free LEGO Batman demo? You know the drill with the LEGO games, it’s super cute and not hard at all, but somehow it’s still fun.
Clip2Mobile is one of my favorite application. I like the feature where I can essentially clip actions into my phone application like save a contact on my mobile from my desktop, placemark a location on google maps in my mobile from desktop, bookmark a URL on my mobile browser from my desktop. These features are extremely handy!
Just dropping a quick note to thank you for mentioning textPlus and mention that WE DO INDEED SUPPORT PUSH NOTIFICATIONS!
We also didn't get the memo about how text messaging conversations should only allow two people. Oops. textPlus lets you talk with a whole bunch of friends at once. Making dinner plans with 5 buddies just got a lot easier.
