I grew up in the period when banking was something that only happened Monday through Friday, during business hours. When you had to figure out how much money you needed before the weekend started—if you ran out before Monday morning at 8 a.m., you had to write a check>. It was a time of insanity and darkness, great beasts roamed the earth, and we watched shadows on the wall of caves and thought those were reality. Then, the ATM was invented.
Now, of course, we have 24 hour banking. You can check your balance at any time, transfer funds, and have ready cash just about any where. Once we get that whole “cure for cancer” thing licked, I think humanity can pretty much stop and just start living off nectar and ambrosia.
In case you can’t tell, I’m a big fan of online banking. Wells Fargo has come out with a iPhone app that duplicates their mobile banking site, like, exactly. The major advantage is that you don’t have to type in the URL. Or you could add it to the Home Screen. But there is an application, and so, here we are.
After registering with Wells Fargo, you can log in to check your balance, and transfer funds between accounts. It uses 128 bit SSL encoding to protect your account, which is a lot of bits, I’m told, and no data is stored on your iPhone; if you ever leave the app, it logs you out automatically.
Beyond banking, you can also use the app to find a Wells Fargo branch or ATM using a zip, address, or the current location feature. The app gives the address, and you can get directions (which, of course, opens the Maps app and logs out out of the Wells Fargo app).
The Wells Fargo app is free, small, and convenient. Its clean interface is easy to navigate and read. It’s exactly the same as the company’s mobile interface, so it’s hardly necessary (especially if you just want to add a link), but there’s really nothing to complain about.
