Free Apps roundup for October 16th, 2009

There’s a solid lineup of apps just waiting to be downloaded below. Seriously, check it out. I really think you’re going to download at least one this week.

• Layar Reality Browser – The future is augmented reality, and it’s likely peppered with advertisements. Before it’s not cool give Layar a try. It adds information on top of camera data to merge the real world with the internet, the way god intended it. Not only is it fun to play with this app, it doubles as a “I bet your stupid phone doesn’t do this!” And with everyone who thinks their **insert_crappy_phone_here** is better than your iPhone 3GS, you might need to remind them why you’re cooler. iPhone 3GS only.
• Photoshop.com Mobile – Now that photoshop is a verb, very much like google, it also needs to be within your reach at all times. This app gives you access to your Photoshop.com account including 2GB of storage for your images. It’s a rather basic image editor. It surely doesn’t live up to it’s name, but it’s probably enough for most users on the go.
• TV Guide Mobile – Finally a TV Guide option for the US. Now you can figure out what’s on TV later, as if your EyeTV or TiVo doesn’t already know, right? Still, it could be helpful to have the latest TV Guide data in your pocket at all times. Channel listings are customizable, you can search, get show details, etc. Ad supported it is.
• ZOOMICA – Normally I wouldn’t make mention of another clock app, but this one is seriously awesome. It’s a trippy mix of spinning letters, colors and zooming time. Just try not to stare at it for too long.
• Modern Combat: Sandstorm FREE – Another first person shooter demo. But I have to say, this one looks amazing. It seems to be very similar to a Desert Storm style game. This is a demo worth downloading, even just to see what your iDevice is capable of.
• Dancing with the Stars – Once again proving that celebrities are inherently better at everything than your average joe. They’re better at us at acting, and certainly politics. But we can’t forget about their undeniable skills on the dance floor. Use this app to witness pictures form the show, learn some dance steps yourself, read some rules, vote and even some videos. So go watch some washed up celebrities make fools of themselves on a weekly basis.
