Well, I can’t say I didn’t see this coming. Rock Band for the iPhone OS by EA Games has hit the App Store’s Top 10 and conquered the Top Grossing list in the U.S. just a few days after its release this week. One could argue that this has happened to many App Store apps in the past, so what makes Rock Band so special?
For one thing, the game sold for $9.99 with none of the free versions, trials, pricing sales or schemes that have been plaguing the App Store for quite some time now. Also, it had some heavy competition with Tap Tap Revenge, which has been selling for just 99 cents. Tap Tap Revenge 3 has the lead on the list of top paid apps, as it makes more sense for the majority of consumers to buy TTR3 over Rock Band due to its price tag. However, that does not seem to be happening, as Rock Band for the iPhone OS continues to gain popularity and make a lot of sales.
Of course, the developers being none other than Electronic Arts, Inc. does help a lot in making sales, and Rock Band is already a very popular game on many game conosles, so it’s definitely not too surprising that it became an instant hit on the iPhone OS. Rock Band is just one example of how popular developers and publishers can put out well-known and popular games at relatively high (even though $10 is quite cheap as the game sells for as much as $59.99 on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii.
