Apple launches browser based iTunes Preview for iTunes links

Apple is trying to make it even easier for people to get involved in the iTunes ecosystem and enjoy the content available on the service. They have now launched a web based sort of iTunes Store that they are calling iTunes Preview. This system allows users who don’t have iTunes installed on their computer to still discover content shared through iTunes links.

While these links would normally either a.) open iTunes on the users computer if it was installed, or b.) have the user install iTunes first if it wasn’t installed, users who don’t have it installed will now be able to view the content in their browser first. To me, this is very valuable as it allows users quick access to the content without having to wait for a download and install of iTunes.

For now, it appears as if online based viewing is strictly for music if you want the details. For instance, clicking a song will give the user a list of all the other songs on the album as well as links to purchase all of them in iTunes. However, clicking on a movie or app simply takes the user to the original page that then redirects them to iTunes as usual. However, some of them do show an icon or other graphic of the media that was trying to be accessed.
