iTouch, MacBook touch, the Apple Tablet…it’s been called a lot of names, all except perhaps a currently available product, but there’s reason to believe Apple may have decided on a name for our much wanted device. Sounds like we might be calling it the TabletMac…well maybe.
You may have heard of a company called Axiotron. They have an aftermarket modification process that can convert a standard MacBook into a fully capable tablet device. Essentially, they remove the keyboard and overlay a multitouch enabled screen that also accepts a Wacom stylus. It’s amazing, and pretty expensive ($699 just for the modification). I’ve tried one of these, and I can say it’s the best tablet you’ll get your hands on, at least until Apple makes their own.
Long story short, Axiotron had been marketing this device as a TabletMac; this trademarked term has transferred hands from Axiotron to Apple. So that means Apple’s tablet will be called the TabletMac, right?
Not so fast. It’s entirely possible that Apple acquired the trademark for “TabletMac” simply to avoid consumer confusion between products. So, while you and I both would like to know just what Apple intends to call their tablet, we’ll just have to wait a bit longer. It sucks, I know.
