If you’re looking for simple yet entertaining iPhone games, look no further than these three games we’re briefly reviewing. Boardwalk, Picnic Panic and Clay Hunt all require you to hit something, be it bowling pins and bottles, roaches and other insects and clay pigeons.

Okay, honestly, I was not really expecting to enjoy any of these games, but as I play each one of them (except Clay Hunt), I actually had fun.

Clay Hunt

Clay Hunt iPhone GameDeveloper: Aleksi Rantonen
Requirements: iPhone or iPod touch (2nd generation or later)
File Size: 1.6MB
Price: $0.99
Appletell Rating: 2/5
App Store Link: Clay Hunt

Clay Hunt is a simple shooting game with pretty complicated control features. The objective is to shoot down 25 clay pigeons being thrown into the air one by one. It would have been a simple shooting game if not for its controls. To shoot the clay pigeons, you need to aim your shotgun by dragging the weapon up and then tapping the screen at the same time. What makes the game difficult is the fact that the clay pigeons are too small and fly away so fast.

Anyway, if you manage to master the controls of the game, I’m pretty sure you’ll find some enjoyment. I didn’t.

Picnic Panic

Picnic Panic iPhone GameDeveloper: Assyria Game Studio
Requirements: iPhone and iPod Touch (version 1.0 and later)
File Size: 41.4 MB
Price: $0.99
Appletell Rating: 4/5
App Store Link: Picnic Panic

If Clay Hunt was pretty hard in the control department, Picnic Panic is way too easy. The objective of the game is to prevent roaches and similar crawling bugs from spoiling your Picnic food and other items lying down on the grass. To do this, you touch the screen to splat the bugs before they reach your picnic food.

The more bugs you’ve killed, the higher your points will be. Bonus points are awarded if you are able to splat the same type of bugs in succession, creating a chain combo.

What makes this game so good is the excitement and adrenalin rush you’ll get once you’ve achieved a certain level that unlocks the next portion of the game. By that time, more bugs will attack your picnic loot until you start to panic. The game ends when 0% of your picnic foods are left.

As a bonus feature, Picnic Panic connects to Agon online—allowing you to upload high scores and share them with your friends through Facebook and Twitter.

Boardwalk Games

Boardwalk iPhone GameDeveloper: Skyworks
Requirements: iPhone and iPod Touch (version 1.0 and later)
File Size: 19.7 MB
Price: $1.99
Appletell Rating: 5/5

Don’t mind the price you have to pay to get this app because you’re not really getting just one game, you’re getting three: Tiki Toss, Balloon Safari and Spill Da’ Milk. That’s right, those three games are your classic carnival games. As such, this iPhone game tries to mimic this gameplay and experience on your iPhone or iPod.

Boardwalk Games

So, what do these games offer? Tons of fun. To begin with, Tiki Toss is everybody’s ball-tossing game. This time, you will try to knock down as many Tiki heads as possible. You are given unlimited balls so you are free to hit as many Tiki heads as you can until time expires. The game lets you play Quick Mode and Progressive Game. The former is your standard arcade style game while latter gives you goals to achieve to advance to the next level.

Next, we have Spill Da’ Milk, which tasks you to knock down as many milk bottles as you can. You’ll get bonus points if you knock down the entire stack of milk bottles in one throw.

Finally, there’s Balloon Safari, a dart throwing game which task to hit as much balloons as you can to earn points and win prizes. There are some hidden bonus items as you go along with the game. Like the other two games, Balloon Safari also has Quick and Progressive game modes.

Overall, Boardwalk provides enough fun and entertainment to be worth the download.

  1. Thanks for your opinion about my game Clay Hunt!

For the next version, which I'm already implementing, I'm planning to add tutorial & beginner game mode to ease the learning curve.
