New App Store Look

Apple has been working hard to address some of the complaints about the App Store and its ecosystem, especially for developers. One of their latest updates helps both developers and customers. The new layout places a larger emphasis on the description and icon of the application. It also makes it easier to find the more important parts of the app in the left hand column, such as its rating and what products it is compatible with. Interestingly, the reviews and stars ratings are now far enough down on the page that I don’t even see them on my screen without scrolling.

By having a larger emphasis on the buy button and developer’s description and images, this new design may help to drive more sales for developers when people visit their application. This, in turn, helps the customers as well by providing easier access to some of the more important content.

We all know the reviewing process on the App Store can be a little iffy at times. While there is clearly a place for this content, I’m glad it has been moved down so the star rating doesn’t sway customers automatically.

What are your thoughts on the new design?
