Apple purchased iSlate.com; name of possible tablet device?

Shortly after rumors surfaced of an Apple tablet in January, it has been discovered that Apple purchased the domain name iSlate.com in 2007. While it currently doesn’t point anywhere, this is presumably a domain Apple will be using to forward to a new product page for their tablet device that is rumored to be announced at a January 26th event.

As usual, this is all speculation, as Apple may have purchased this domain simply to have in case a future project were to be named with that branding. That said, it seems to play along nicely with the current rumors.

On one hand, I hope Apple does announce some sort of tablet this January simply to stop all the rumors that sprout up about once a month or so. On the other hand, I hope they go a totally different route and announce a product that none of us saw coming, much as with the iPhone. Knowing Apple, the latter is just as likely and the former, and we’ll have to wait a month or so to find out what happens.
