DUAL iPod touch GPS case

TomTom and Magellan both have iPod Touch GPS solutions, but they are no longer alone. A company called DUAL has their own solution in the form of an iPod touch case and cradle. Best of all, the unit is packed with features.

Obviously, this gives the iPod Touch support for GPS. It apparently works with all GPS apps on the iPhone. How this is possible, I do not know, but it seems to be another way for iPod touch owners to use other GPS apps for navigation, geocaching, etc. It also doubles as a rechargeable battery to augment your iPod’s internal battery. It has an amplified speaker, audio out, microphone and mini USB port for charging and syncing.

DUAL GPS car mount

The whole thing will mount to your windshield as well with the included mount. And the mount is separate from the GPS capabilities housed inside of the case, so you can just grab and go if you like. There’s an included car charger, and you’ll need it as GPS sucks battery. The only downside here is that it only works with the iPod touch, in the GPS case. It’s not useful for an iPhone, and you can’t use it without the case. The DUAL rep told me that there is a case in the works for the iPhone 3G(S) later.

DUAL also has their own GPS navigation app called NavAtlas. It uses Navteq maps. The apps will speak your street names, and it has many of the standard features of other GPS apps. Oh, and it’s free. Wait, what? Yup. Free. Crazy, I know.

No word on pricing or availability, but we can hope that it will be less than the cradles from TomTom or Magellan.

I don't see them mentioning this product on their website. Is this a rip off?

  2. Biggest Con i can see – won't work if you have a case on your ipod touch. And who doesn't have a case? Magellan was smart in that regard.
