MOTO, a company that helps startups, recently did some research on the accuracy of touchscreens on various popular smartphones, and found some interesting results. They created a simple drawing program for each of the devices, and then wrote across the screen at various pressures and speeds, claiming, “On a good touchscreen, users can draw clean straight lines, even while going very slowly, so the graphics that appear on screen accurately represent what was physically draw.” By the same token, good touchscreens will also produce clean, straight lines whether you are using your entire finger or just the tip of it.
Based on their test, they found the iPhone did the best overall at tracking straight lines throughout the center of the phone. However, near the edge, and especially along the bottom, you can see that the iPhone began to suffer and curve. The Nexus One, on the other hand performed very well on the edges of the device in comparison to the other touchscreens.
