Quality is almost synonymous with Monster Cable. But the Beats by Dr. Dre Lady Gaga Heartbeats are about more than just great audio, they’re about style too. And just like Lady Gaga, this is style you can’t find anywhere else. Even if you fancy Lady Gaga to be too much to handle, I think you’ll love that the Heartbeats match their unique style perfectly with the great audio quality you’d expect from Monster.
There’s only one way to start a Lady Gaga related review, so I’ll just get this out of the way right now. Cherry, Cherry, Boom, Boom.
Okay, now we can get started.
I talked with Monster at CES this year, and they know all too well that the headphones need to fit in your ears properly for accurate sound reproduction. Not only do they know it, they make it happen too with an inordinate number of eartip sizes to choose from. These headphones are actually pretty unique in that the cord is flat. This is meant to prevent tangling and tearing, and I think it does a great job at that.
The connector at the end of the cable is a right angle connector, so you shouldn’t have to worry about damaging your headphone jack since it doesn’t stick out as much. On the opposite side of the eartips you’ll see the most recognizable part of these guys, the diamond inspired ends that stick out of your ears. Right below this, there’s even a little attachment with Gaga’s signature on it, a sure plus for Gaga fans. And let’s fa-fa-fa-face it, Gaga fans are likely bu-bu-bu-buying 75+% of these headphones. And if you do buy a pair of these, you’ll have three colors to choose from: black chrome, bright chrome and rose red. Ga ga ooo la la.
Other than that, these in ear headphones are fairly standard. Well, I should say standard in terms of Monster quality. The sound reproduction is right where it should be, at the top of its game. The sound quality really is comparable to most other high end headphones on the market, and on par with one of my favorite in ear headphones, the Sleek Audio SA1s.
Obviously, the people interested in these headphones are also interested in looking good. These headphones have a style you just can’t get from any other manufacturer. The diamond inspired look is very nice, and will surely turn heads. The three color choices should match just about anything you could wear, and since they’re from Lady Gaga, I really do mean anything. Even the case, which perfectly matches the headphones, is pretty sweet. It looks just like one of the ends of the headphones, only much bigger. Even better, it’s actually useful. You can store your Heartbeats inside it for travel, along with the extra ear tips, or more likely, eye liner, cigarettes and glitter…
Really, the only thing missing from the Lady Gaga Heartbeats is iPhone controls. Yes, I’d love to see a detachable cable to remedy this whole situation, but the only company doing that these days seems to be Sleek Audio. But like I said before, you just can’t find style like there with any other headphone, and thankfully you don’t have to sacrifice audio quality to get it. In fact, you’ll likely be upgrading from something that doesn’t sound or look anywhere close to the Heartbeats.
Update: I stand corrected. There’s another way to fix the whole iPhone control issue, you could just buy the Heartbeats with ControlTalk. My bad.
