Apple sells around 300,000 iPads Saturday

According to information out of Cupertino, Apple sold around 300,000 iPads this Saturday, launch day. This number includes preorders as well as iPads sold at the stores. Despite the device receiving glowing reviews from various sources around the internet, this number is much lower than anticipated by some analysts. Furthermore, news of the sales numbers caused Apple’s shares to drop.

While Apple may not have sold as many iPads as they would’ve liked on opening day, keep in mind that some customers may be anxiously holding out for the Wifi + 3G model. Furthermore, it isn’t available internationally yet. Also, I’m sure Apple raked in quite a bit through the iPad App Store considering 1) the high quality of many of the published apps in that store, and 2) the high (yet reasonable for what you get) prices of many of the apps.

I still consider the day a success. The device is not a flop by any means.
