Apple updates the MacBook Pro

The online Apple Store has once again returned to its normal state, but with the addition of an updated range of MacBook Pro computers. It’s very refreshing to learn that the information leaked earlier from AppleInsider was proven to be correct; each machine ships with 4GB of RAM as standard, with support up to 8GB.

The starting price is now at $1,199 for a 13-inch model, and rises up to $2,299 for the base model 17-inch. You can also upgrade the MacBook Pro to take advantage of a 512GB solid state flash drive, but this addition alone will cost an extra $1,450 on top of the 13-inch base model price of $1,199. The graphics cards have also seen improvements, with each machine using the NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M, with up to 512MB of dedicated RAM in the 17-inch model. Both the Intel Core i5 and i7 are now being used in the MacBook Pro ranges, with the Intel Core i7 only being standard in the 2.66 GHz 15-inch model.

The 15-inch and 17-inch models both come with high-resolution displays, offering around 200 pixels extra in both directions. It’s also worth mentioning that the 13-inch MacBook Pro is claimed to have up to 10 hours worth of battery life. That’s an impressive achievement, and if it’s able to stand up to the claims, a feature that many commuters will be very excited about.

The updates brought pretty much exactly what we expected. There are no real surprises here, but no disappointments either.

Unfortunately, the store updates only came to the MacBook Pro range. There’s still no word from Apple on when the iPad will ship worldwide, or when the iPad 3G will land, either. The rumors all suggest April 24th, which is now only a couple of weeks away.
