Not a minute too soon, Apple has released details on the international launch of the Apple iPad. The magical device will hit an additional nine countries on May 28, along with the opening of the iBook Store and iPad App Store in those countries, including the UK, Australia, France, Germany, Spain, Japan, Italy, Canada and Switzerland.
Apple has also announced the planned pricing for the devices, with the usual Apple-tax rearing it’s head once again. As an example, when run through a currency exchange, $499 translates to £337 in the UK. What price will the 16 GB WiFi-only iPad be selling for in the UK? £429, almost one hundred pounds more. It’s still quite a reasonable price, but it makes me personally happy I decided to ship one from the US to my home in England, UK.
There are similar pricing scenarios in the other eight countries:
The pricing for Canada appears to simply be an additional CAD$50 on top of the current US pricing.
The second wave of international availability—including Austria, Belgium, Hong Kong, Ireland, Mexico, New Zealand and Singapore—is believed to be set for a July launch.
